Jack Lester Worrell

March 17, 1950 — May 28, 2020

Jack Lester Worrell born March 17, 1950, and passed away May 28, 2020; was the middle child in a family of 5 kids and lived with his parents and siblings in Corona from the age of 18 months. The family arrived in California from New Jersey in a couple of old trucks, Jack with our dad in an old Ford, and the older sister and brother were in a 1939 Chevy panel truck driven by our mom. Jack grew up working hard from an early age in his parents automotive repair shop next to the family home and became a skilled mechanic and well-respected master engine builder for racing cars & boats. He owned & raced an econo A dragster at one time. He was drafted and went to Vietnam where he was a mechanic in the motor pool. When he got home he married Vicky, and opened a shop in Orange County. The marriage didnt last long, and there were no children He was still talking about finding a small shop up until weeks before his death to do only the kind of work he liked to do. He said he was more than a mechanic, but rather a master engine builder. Jacks parents, Doris & Bill Worrell Jr. and his brother Bill Worrell III preceded him in death. His surviving family includes brother Kevin Worrell and sisters Susan Houchen & Barbara Keller. Nieces & nephews are Marcie Houchen, Allison Walker, Jarrod Houchen, Tracy LaNae, Melissa Worrell, & Rebecca Newman. He has 14 great nieces & nephews. Aunts, uncles, and cousins live on the east coast, mostly in NJ & NC, but he hadnt seen them since he was small, but they remember him. Jacks memorial service was on Sept 18, 2020 at the Riverside National Cemetery with family and friends in attendance, with social distancing and masks for COVID times. Jack was upstanding, generous to his friends, and proud of his reputation in the racing world in Southern California. He wasnt perfect, and was affected by PTSD as a result of his service in Vietnam. He will be missed. There was nobody like him. Cemetery Riverside National Cemetery 1102 E. 6th Street Corona, CA 92879 Friday 9/18, 10:30 am
